Epidemo

EPIDEMO is a program with a double purpose: on one hand it is an educational program attempting to give insight in several epidemiological subjects with the help of text, examples and graphs.
On the other hand there is a possibility to analyze your own data. In several cases data can be saved in ASCII files to use them again later. The program is available in Dutch and in English and runs in DOS. The Windows version is on the way.

Distribution analysis

Based on a frequency distribution or an array of measures (dividable in a variable number of classes) statistics like average, mode, median, standard deviation and skewness are calculated. The distribution can be shown graphically.

Prevalence and incidence

Several parameters estimating the occurence of disease, events or characteristics can be calculated: ratio, index, proportion, rate, incidence, incidence density, cumulative incidence, prevalence, point prevalence en period prevalence. Advanced information will show the difference between those estimates.

Test evaluation and agreement

By means of a 2x2 table statistics like prevalence, sensitivity, specificity and predictable values are calculated. Graphs illustrate these statistics. In the testagreement the KAPPA statistic is calculated by means of a 2x2 table.

Association measures in 2x2 tables

By means of 2x2 tables statistics like Odds ratio and Relative risk are calculated at different levels and in different ways. While several tables can be presented crude Odds ratio, crude Relative risk, Mantel-Haenszel and Breslow-Day statistics can be calculated.

Samplesize and evaluation

Corresponding to different situations samplesizes can be estimated. The prevalence obtained can be evaluated by calculating the confidence intervals. In many cases the calculated value will be illustrated graphically. Estimation of samplesize to compare populations and a random number generator are also included.

Survival analysis

Life tables are calculated stepwise and can be presented graphically. While several tables can be presented comparative statistics can be calculated: Mantel-Haenszel, Relative risk and P-value.

Reed Frost model

The parameter P or (thèta) can be estimated by the input of measures, or, when this parameter is known, a beginning situation can be indicated. In both cases the progress of the infection stages are presented in a table and graphical. The R-value is also calculated.

Markov Chain model

By means of an arbitrary transition matrix and a starting vector the progress of the different stages are calculated and presented in a table and graphical. Both the transition matrix and the starting vector can be saved.

Outbreak investigation

Events can be positioned in time by means of a distribution in (maximum) five groups. The obtained table can be presented graphically in order to detect a pattern in the outbreak.

Usability

Although EPIDEMO is a DOS program, it is completely menu driven. So every part of the program can be reached by arrow keys and enter key. When input is expected help will be available on screen.
